tiris Maps 2.0

New version of Tyrolian Mapping-Plattform launched at www.tirol.gv.at

The Tyrolian spatial information system called "tiris" offers more than 400 content layers to be used within the different government agencies and (partly) through public services. There you'll find information regarding Agriculture and Forestry, civil engineering, environmental affairs, regional planning, water management plus additional content like addresses, parcels, landuse, transportation, and many more.

Since a few days, tirisMaps2.0 is online, based on ArcGIS for Server by Esri and WebOffice from SynerGIS. Reports are implemented using SynerGIS ePaper. The new version is has extended functionality, content and usability.

States the public announcement of Tyrol (german only): "These services are a valuable contribution towards open government and facilitate open communication about many administrative topics and tasks."

We'd like to congratulate the country, the tiris-Team and Tyrolian DVT on this spanning solution.

Here you can access the Tyrolian Spatial Information System tiris (german only).

Heartbleed not a serious concern for Esri Users

Esri has published information about the effects for all Esri systems

The OpenSSL-Vulnerability "Heartbleed" got a lot of media attention last week. And it is important to check your systems for any leaks or risks!

Esri uses the OpenSSL-Libraries, and immediately tested all Online-systems and products.

This Knowledge Base Technical Article lists all systems and products and how/if they are affected. Please read this article carefully and act as recommended.

In summary - the risks are minor:

  • Many Esri products and Online systems either do not use OpenSSL or in a way that exposes no risk
  • All Online-Systems have been updated where necessary. Still - changing passwords from time to time is advised
  • The Esri GlobalAccount-Systemis not affected
  • SynerGIS WebOffice does not use OpenSSL

There are explicitely two potential threats mentioned:

  • ArcGIS for Server (Linux), when using Print Services and remote Publishing Services - there is an extra Knowledge Base Artikel (KB 42407) and a Patch is available for this
  • All Web Gateways (NOT Esri Products!), like reverse Proxy Configurations or NAT, that use OpenSSL, have to be checked. Please refer to the information provided by the respective vendor

Microsoft Hotfix for potential problems with FileGeodatabases

A solution for storage on shared drives has been found

In May of this year, we informed you about Microsoft update, KB 2775511, that could result in data corruption when using ArcGIS on a Windows 7 system and writing data to remote data storage on a Windows Vista, 7, 2008/2008 R2, or 2012 system.

This is a follow up to inform you  that Microsoft has now released a fix under  KB 2732673 for this issue.

Esri has tested the fix and verified that it resolves the data corruption problem previously mentioned.

The following describes what you need to do to apply this fix:

If you previously installed Microsoft KB 2775511

·         Download and install the update found at Knowledge Base article 2732673 according to the IT policies of your organization.

If you did not yet install Microsoft KB 2775511, but plan to do so at a future date

·         Install the update found at KB 2732673 now to avoid any issues that may impact file geodatabases and shapefiles stored on network drives.

See Esri Knowledge Base Article 41119 for further information and updates.

Microsoft Hotfix can cause problems with File Geodatabases ...

... if those are used on a shared network drive

Dear Users,

If you have applied Microsoft hotfix roll-up  (KB 2775511)

and created file geodatabases on a shared network location from a Windows 7 SP1 or a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 machine, your file geodatabases are unusable. You will see an error message referencing the item type when you create new datasets or items in a file geodatabase.

For example, the following message will appear when creating a new feature class:

"Failed to create feature class.
The item was not found. [ItemType:
{70737809-852C-4A03-9E22-2CECEA5B9BFA}]"

Cause
This issue is still under investigation.

Workaround
Esri is working on a patch to mitigate this issue. There are currently several workarounds.

See Esri Knowledge Base article 41119 for further information and updates.

Update on 15th of May

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, identified the affected component as RDBSS.sys, and provided further details.

Esri and Microsoft are working closely to understand what has changed in the RDBSS.sys component, and how to resolve the problem.

Microsoft recommends not installing the KB 2775511, KB 2732673, or KB 2824408 updates (in other words, any update since release of KB 2775511 that has a newer RDBSS.sys).

What do you need to do you do?

If you have not installed KB 2775511, KB 2732673, or KB 2824408, you should not install them per Microsoft’s recommendation.

If you have installed KB 2775511, KB 2732673, or KB 2824408, Microsoft recommends uninstalling them.

See Esri Knowledge Base Article 41119 for further information and updates.
